Words for children who don't speak, or don't speak yet

Amalino is an app for phones and tablets. A child taps pictures, and the device says the words out loud, in the family's own language.

Always free for children and families.

Last year, on a plane, I saw a boy who couldn't speak the way other children did, and I kept thinking about him. The good apps that help children like him are expensive, many work only on iPads, and few speak the languages families use at home. So I'm making Amalino.

Why I'm making Amalino

Amalino isn't in the app stores yet. I'm testing it on real phones and tablets now, and the first families will try it soon.

What makes it different

  • Words stay in their place

The words a child needs most sit in the same spot every time, so their hand learns the way, just as yours does on a keyboard. Start with a few big buttons and show more as your child grows. Nothing moves.

  • Your family's languages

English, Danish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic and Spanish, with one tap to switch. You can also record words in your own voice, so it sounds like home.

  • Help for the grown-ups

Children learn to talk with pictures the way they learn to talk with words: by watching us. Amalino shows you where each word is and gives short tips, so you can talk with the pictures too.

  • Private and offline

No account, no ads, no tracking. Amalino works without the internet, and what your child says stays on your device.

For Android phones and tablets, and for iPhone and iPad.

Will it stop my child from learning to talk?

No. Research shows that talking with pictures doesn't hold speech back, and it may even help. It's a bridge to talking, not a replacement. There's no minimum age, and a child doesn't have to be "ready" first.

Do you speak another language?

Every language in Amalino needs someone who speaks it at home to check the words. If that could be you, have a look.
