Help translate Amalino
A child should be able to talk in the language they hear at home. That's why every word in Amalino is checked by someone who speaks the language, not only by a translation tool. You don't need to be a translator or install anything: a spreadsheet and a little time are enough.
Write to me at hello@amalino.app and tell me which language you speak.
Improve a language Amalino already has
Amalino speaks English, Danish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic and Spanish. Apart from English, the text is a first draft, and it needs a native speaker.
How it works
- I send you a review spreadsheet for your language. Each row has the English, the draft in your language and, for words, the picture.
- If a row is right, write "yes" in the "OK?" column. If it isn't, write a better word or sentence in the "Correction" column. Leave it empty if you're not sure.
- Send the spreadsheet back. I put your corrections into the app and mark the text as checked.
You don't have to do it all at once. The setup screens and the first words matter most, so they come first. Some languages have a few extra questions, for example about word endings for boys and girls.
Do you use GitHub? Then you can also fix a translation there: every language has its own file, and I check each change before it goes into the app. A simple web form for translators is coming too.
Add your language
If your language isn't in Amalino yet, you can help bring it in.
How it works
- I send you a translation spreadsheet: the app's English text, with an empty column for your words. The setup screens and a child's first words come first.
- Fill in what you can. Even the first page is a real help.
- Send it back. I keep your words as a draft for your language.
To be honest, adding a language to the app takes time. It needs a voice that speaks the language well, and a second person to check the words. Your work is kept safe until then, and it will be the start of your language in Amalino.
Until then, families can still make boards in any language by recording each word in their own voice.
On GitHub you can also start your language by copying the English file. I check everything before it goes into the app.
Thank you. Every word you check helps a child say what they mean.
