Privacy
Amalino is built so the child's words stay with the child. There are no ads, no tracking and no account.
What stays on the device
- The child's boards, words, photos and recordings.
- What the child says, and the usage logs behind Progress and the Weekly summary.
- The child's name.
They're stored only on the device, encrypted. The daily automatic backup stays on the device too. A backup you export is a file protected by your password; where you keep it is up to you.
What Amalino downloads
Some things are downloaded once, when you ask for them, and then work offline:
- Voices: the natural voices and the voices for one language. Amalino tells you the size first, and asks before using mobile data.
- The speech recogniser for Partner listening.
- Pictures: if you search all of ARASAAC or other symbol sets online, only your search words are sent, nothing about the child. Pictures you choose are saved on the device.
- Offline translation, where the device supports it: the language is downloaded once. No words from the app are sent.
Features that work on the device
- Partner listening recognises speech on the device. Audio is never saved or sent.
- Pages for the moment can use the time, a saved place or today's calendar event titles. All of it is checked on the device only and never uploaded.
- Suggest hotspots looks at a scene's photo on the device. On Android it uses Google ML Kit on the device: photos never leave it, but ML Kit sends Google anonymous usage and performance information. iPhone and iPad use Apple's own on-device recognition.
What could leave the device
Only what you choose to send:
- a backup file you export and share,
- boards you export to another app,
- a printed or saved PDF.
Sync and sharing, the Board library and the cloud helpers would use an online service. Where this version doesn't have one, their screens say so, and nothing is sent.
Deleting everything
Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on the device. Keep an exported backup if you want to restore later.
