Quick phrases and More
Some things need to be said fast, without building a sentence. The phrase row at the bottom of the board keeps them one tap away, on every page.
The phrase row
From left to right:
- ★ Favourites: opens the Favourites folder.
- ! stop
- ! help me
- First family phrase
- Second family phrase
- More: opens the page with all the phrases.
Every button keeps its place, in every language and on every page. Stop and help me are always there and always red: they're the urgent phrases. The four phrase buttons are all the same width, so a long phrase never pushes anything aside; it wraps onto a second line instead.
A tap on a phrase says it straight away. It doesn't go into the message bar.
Choosing the two family phrases
Open the grown-up controls and choose Quick phrases. Under On the board, pick the First phrase and the Second phrase for the slots next to stop and help me. Choose the two the child needs most, for example "I need a break" and "I don't like it".
The More page
More opens a page of up to 12 phrases, each in its own fixed place. A tap says the phrase and closes the page; Close goes back without saying anything.
In Quick phrases, under Phrase page, you can:
- Add a phrase and choose its Place on the page,
- Edit a phrase, or mark it Urgent so it shows in red,
- Delete a phrase. Its place stays empty; the others don't move.
When the page is full, remove a phrase, or tap Make a phrase board to turn the phrases into a folder with room for more.
Phrases with the child's name in them, like "My name is…", appear once you've added the name.
Favourites
The Favourites folder holds the things the child loves most: the five favourite things from setup and anything you add later. It's one tap away from every page through ★ Favourites.
The main board keeps one place free for Favourites too, marked "Kept free for ★ Favourites" when you choose where a new button goes.
On small phones, the ★ button may show the star without the word. It does the same thing.
Hiding the phrase row
If the child is distracted by the row, you can turn it off in Settings → Display, hearing and sensory → Show quick phrases. Think twice: stop and help me are often the most important words a child has.
Tip: Model "stop" and "help me" in calm moments too, not only when things go wrong.
Next: The keyboard.
